The Chester Made Exploration Zone is a creative, cultural space that gives community members the chance to engage with one another, learn more about the city's cultural assets and history, rebuild their downtown and change perceptions about Chester. The Exploration Zone expands on the Chester Made cultural assets map and the great movement led by Chester artists, entrepreneurs, and city officials that is transforming the downtown and bringing business back to Chester.
In recent months, we've been hosting a program called #TheBuild in the Exploration Zone. After months of designing, creating, and building we officially launched the Chester Made Exploration Zone through introduction of the new pop-up makerspace that will serve as the hub of Chester Made programming and workshops!
We have officially launched the Chester Made Exploration Zone.
The celebration included a reception and workshop. See below for event details.
Chester Made Exploration Zone Launch Reception
On March 10th the Chester Made team and project partners invited Chester artists and community members to learn about the creative work that is happening in Overtown.
Chester Made artistic director, Devon Walls and Butcher Shop Rehab's L. Ward and Kenya Abdul-Hadi talked about their art and their commitment to reclaim and repurpose the past in rebuilding Chester; and Alex Gilliam of Public Workshop shared how honored he was to be designing and building with Chester residents and artists.
Through conversation and by touring the new makerspace as well as the Butcher Shop Rehab showroom, Chester community members were able to experience the change that is happening in the downtown.
Butcher Shop Rehab’s L. Ward and Kenya Abdul-Hadi shared the secrets behind making beautiful furniture using reclaimed wood. During a hands-on workshop, Ward and Abdul-Hadi guided teams of community members through the process of creating designer-inspired tables. Keep a look out for the finished tables that will be displayed throughout the City of Chester and the region.
