In 2018, the participants at Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library read “Dear Martin,” a story centered on the experiences of an African American youth who struggles to reconcile his exclusive private education and his self-identity. The book inspired discussions and activities dealing with issues of race, police brutality, dating and underage drinking. The group later had the opportunity to video chat with “Dear Martin” author Nic Stone. The teens also developed a video project related to their readings.
