Teens read Manzano’s graphic novel The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano, wrote poetry around the graphic novel, and watched a documentary about the Young Lords Party to gain a better sense of historical context. In addition to reading about themes of community, identity, social justice, and civic engagement, they also had a community organizing and youth empowerment workshop with a local young activist.
