We’re growing here at PA Humanities! Katie Jean is one of two new Project Coordinators who recently joined our staff and we’re so excited to have her with us. A native of upstate New York, Katie has been in Philadelphia since 2017. Her previous experience includes collaborating with local entrepreneurs, artists, and small businesses, assisting them in building solid business foundations, and offering guidance in financial management and operational processes. You can read her full bio here, but we thought it would be fun to do a short Q&A so you can get to know Katie even better!
Q: Where’s a place where you live that everyone should visit, and why?
A: I like to tell everyone visiting Philly, to take time to go to the Fabric Workshop Museum, it is such a beautiful representation of accessible art here in Philly. They are donation-based entry and the museum is ADA accessible, and it is also right down the street from Reading Terminal (you can also see Nick Cave’s work there). As for my little part of Greys Ferry, everyone should try Korea Taqueria for takeout and enjoy Lanier Park. It has a great unobstructed skyline view of Philadelphia.
Q: What motivates you and inspires you?
A: Hands down it would be my community, whether friends, family or colleagues. The perspective and conversations within those communities helps challenge me to grow in new and different ways. I have been extremely blessed to have a beautiful community here in Philly, that is always connecting, sharing and supporting.
Q: Do you have a favorite author, artist or musician? What do you love about this person and their work?
A: One of my all time favorite visual artists is Nick Cave. I absolutely love the way he uses everyday found objects and materials to create opulence but also engages us to look at fashion and art without judgement in his Soundsuit series. The Soundsuit series is one of my absolute favorites, but he is also an incredibly trained dancer and oftens combines performance with his constructed art.
