PA Heart & Soul Profile | Dillsburg
PA Humanities is currently working with cities and towns across the state to put people first in community development and planning processes through Community Heart & Soul®. The program’s innovative approach uses the tools of the humanities to creatively engage residents in planning and decision-making processes as a way to strengthen a town’s social, cultural and economic vibrancy.
PA Humanities is supporting Community Heart & Soul® in Dillsburg through a partnership with the South Mountain Partnership, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), the Dillsburg Arts and Revitalization Council, and the Orton Family Foundation.
The Dillsburg Community
Dillsburg is a small community located at the northern terminus of the Blue Ridge Mountains, known locally as South Mountain, and is about 20 minutes south of Harrisburg. The area was settled by Matthew Dill, an Irishman, around 1740 and officially incorporated in 1833. The greater Dillsburg area (pop. 18,000) contains the municipalities of Dillsburg Borough, Franklintown Borough, Wellsville Borough, Carroll Twp., Monaghan Twp., Franklin Twp., and Warrington Twp.
