PA Humanities is excited to announce the addition of John L. Jackson Jr. (Philadelphia), Shawn Mooring (Philadelphia), and John Sanchez (State College) as the three newest members of its Board of Directors. Each began their term in November and is eligible to serve up to two consecutive three-year terms.
“I’m excited to welcome these three incredible leaders to our PA Humanities’ board and team,” board chair Gwendolyn White said. “Each brings a profound commitment to the humanities and a wealth of knowledge and experience that will advance our mission and our work across Pennsylvania.”
PA Humanities’ mission is to champion the humanities as a means to build community, educate, inspire, and make long-lasting change. It is governed by a 24-seat board of directors, which is made up of both elected individuals and governor appointees. Members have backgrounds in business, law, education, philanthropy, government, arts, and culture.
The newest board members bring an impressive range of experience to PA Humanities. John L. Jackson Jr. serves as Provost at University of Pennsylvania and holds the title of Richard Perry University Professor in the Annenberg School for Communication and the School of Arts and Sciences. Shawn Mooring is Head of Philadelphia Programs at The Lenfest Institute for Journalism. John Sanchez is Professor Emeritus at The Pennsylvania State University.
“We are honored to have these esteemed champions of the humanities join our board,” said Laurie Zierer, executive director of PA Humanities. “I look forward to their collaboration and fresh ideas as we launch our newest initiatives in 2025.”
