Mary Ellen brings more than a decade of nonprofit communications experience to PHC, as well as an extensive background in writing, editing, and publications.
She began her career in book publishing, working on literary fiction and nonfiction at Henry Holt and humanities monographs and collections at Columbia University Press. Later she shifted to communications and editorial work for arts and history organizations, including the Mary Baker Eddy Library, the Wadsworth Atheneum and Real Art Ways.
Mary Ellen joined PHC in June 2015 after eight years at the Chemical Heritage Foundation, a Philadelphia-based research and cultural organization focused on the history of science. There she led a team responsible for messaging, web communications, earned media, social media, e-mail marketing, and event promotion.
A native of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Mary Ellen holds a bachelor’s degree in English and American literature and religion studies from Muhlenberg College and a master’s degree in English and American literature from Brandeis University.
